This missionary psalm inspired generations to send men and women to distant
countries, carrying the message of God’s greatness to the nations. Today, the nations have come to our own doorsteps. In our own neighborhoods, we encounter the very people for whom we once crossed oceans. Recently, as my wife and I reflected on this reality with my parents, we identified that our next-door neighbor is from Egypt, two houses down we have neighbors from Brazil, and across the street live a wonderful couple from Romania and a newly relocated
family from Algeria.
God has brought the mission field to us, placing within our reach the opportunity to share Christ’s love with the nations right here in our own communities. Evangelism isn’t just about going out; it’s also about welcoming in. Let’s be intentional in building relationships with our neighbors, embodying the love of Christ, and declaring the goodness of God with the same passion as those who once journeyed to far-off lands. The mission hasn’t changed, but our mission field certainly has.
Today’s Prayer
Jesus, open our eyes to the mission field around us. Give us the courage to open our hearts to our neighbors and the boldness to open our mouths to declare your praise.
