Mark 16:15

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”

Scripture Insights

Scripture gives us a consistent and compelling storyline that links the nature of
God to movement and mission. God, in Jesus, moves out from heaven and to
ward humanity. In Mathew 28, Jesus tells us to go to make disciples, to baptize,
and to teach. In Luke, Jesus sends out the seventy-two disciples and says, “Go! I
am sending you like lambs among wolves.”

Embedded within this language of going is the language of invitation. God
is inviting us to be part of what the Holy Spirit is doing in our world. We can
accept that invitation from God to go.

Perhaps more challenging is the fact that going is wrapped up in the in vitation to be a guest. To go means we leave our place of comfort—the space we control, the reality we know—to accept someone’s invitation to be a guest. Being a guest means a loss of control. This is a step of faith as we accept God’s invitation to be sent for the sake of the good news.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Jesus, we are thankful that you came to roll back the ravages of sin. You invite us into the hope of redemption and reconciliation. Help us to continue our yes to you to go and carry the good news of resurrection.
